Smart Equity Invest (smartequityinvest.in) is an educational website run by one individual in India. This page explains what personal data the site collects, why, who else receives it, how long it is kept and what you can ask for. It applies to this website only.

The short version

• You can read every page without giving us anything. There are no accounts, no logins, no comments and no paywall.
• The site uses Google Analytics to count visits. It sets cookies and collects usage data. You can block it; the site works exactly the same.
• If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address and message, and use them only to reply to you.
• The site shows no advertising, does not sell or rent personal data, and earns nothing from brokers, fund houses or apps.

What we collect, and why

Usage data, through Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4, a service from Google LLC, to understand which pages people read, how they arrive (for example from a search engine), and whether the site works well on their device. We use this to decide what to write and fix.

Google Analytics collects:

• the pages you visit, when, and for how long;
• the page that referred you;
• your approximate location (city or region, derived from your IP address);
• your device type, browser, operating system and screen size.

Google Analytics 4 does not log or store full IP addresses. We have not enabled Google Signals, advertising features or any link to Google Ads, and we do not send Google anything that identifies you by name or email.

Google Analytics sets first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_<ID>, which keep a random identifier so that repeat visits can be counted. They last up to two years unless you delete them.

Google processes this data under its own privacy policy. How Google uses data from sites that use its services is explained at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Messages you send through the contact form

When you submit the contact form we receive:

• your name and email address;
• your message.

The message is delivered by email to the site's mailbox, hosted by Hostinger, and is not stored in any database on the website. We use your details only to read and answer your message. We never add you to a mailing list.

To limit spam, the website notes your IP address against each form submission for ten minutes, in memory only, and allows at most five messages in that time.

Server logs

Like every web server, our hosting provider, Hostinger, records technical details of each request: IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser's user-agent. These logs are used for security and to diagnose faults. We do not use them to identify visitors.

Your theme choice

If you choose the light or dark theme, the choice is saved in your browser's local storage (sei-theme) so the site remembers it. It never leaves your device and is not a cookie.

The fund returns calculator

The periodic return calculator fetches fund data through our own server from a separate data service. Your browser talks only to smartequityinvest.in; your IP address is not passed to the data service. The request contains only the funds and periods you chose.

What we never collect

We do not ask for or collect your PAN, Aadhaar, bank or card details, portfolio holdings, phone number or passwords.

The calculators do their arithmetic in your browser. So that you can bookmark or share a result, most of them keep your inputs in the page address, for example ?monthly=10000&years=20. Like any page address, that is recorded by Google Analytics along with the page you viewed. It contains only the amounts and rates you entered, never anything that identifies you.

If anyone contacts you claiming to be from Smart Equity Invest and asks for any of these, it is not us.

Who receives data

• Google, for analytics, as described above.
• Hostinger, which hosts the website and the mailbox the contact form delivers to.

Google may process data outside India. We share data with no one else, except where Indian law requires it, for example on a lawful request from a court or government authority.

How long we keep it

Your choices

• Block analytics. Decline or delete cookies in your browser settings, use a content blocker, or install Google's opt-out browser add-on. The site works the same without it.
• Clear your theme choice by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Your rights

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask us to:

• tell you what personal data of yours we hold and how it is used;
• correct or complete it;
• erase it, where we no longer need it for the purpose it was given;
• nominate another person to exercise these rights if you die or become unable to do so.

We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Data held by Google under Google Analytics is identified by a random cookie ID, not by your name, so we cannot find a particular visitor's analytics data. Deleting your cookies breaks the link to it.

Children

The site is written for adults making their own financial decisions. It is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has contacted us through the form, write to us and we will delete the message.

Security

The whole site is served over HTTPS. Contact-form messages are sent to the mailbox over an encrypted connection. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we collect so little that there is little to lose.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If we ever add advertising, newsletters or anything else that collects more data, this page will be updated before that goes live.
